What Coaching Really Is (and When It’s the Right Support)

What is Coaching?

There are many ways to define coaching. One official definition I resonate with is: “Coaching is an effective, high-impact process of dialogue that helps high-performing people improve results that are sustained over time.”

My own definition of coaching is that it is a process of discovery through conversation—about how to move from point A to point B in your life and career. It is a journey from the here and now to the future you want to build. Along the way, beliefs, patterns, and mindsets emerge—some of them disempowering to your journey. In coaching, we address these using coaching tools and frameworks, and reflection exercises.

The first milestone of the journey is deciding on your destination. Then, we can plan the best way for you to get there—one that is aligned with your values, passions, interests, and possibilities (both personal and external).

A core belief of coaching is that you already hold what you need to move forward and build the life and career you want. The coach is there to support you in uncovering this, bringing it to the surface, and using it as a platform for meaningful action.

In my work with mid-career women, I offer career and executive coaching, focusing on navigating change, growth, and leadership with intention.
